Climate Forum

Climate Forum & Training

The Antarctic RCC training programme equips scientists, policy makers and operational personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to interpret and apply climate information. It embraces WMO’s mandate for Regional Climate Centres to coordinate training activities and provide guidance on the use of RCC products and services. The associated forum fosters dialogue among users to identify needs and share insights, reflecting the WMO practice of convening user forums to refine regional services.

Overview

AntRCC training emphasises collaborative learning and capacity building. Participants gain a grounding in Antarctic climate processes, forecasting techniques and data management practices. Through workshops, seminars and online modules, the programme develops competencies in understanding long‑range forecasts, interpreting climate diagnostics and using data services. In addition, the programme encourages participants to contribute feedback through the climate forum, ensuring that training responds to evolving user needs.

Training Topics

Training modules cover core scientific and operational themes relevant to Antarctic climate services. Key topics include:

  • Long‑range forecasting interpretation
  • Climate monitoring diagnostics
  • The cryosphere and its influence on climate change
  • Data services and quality control
  • Using AntRCC reanalysis products
  • Participating in the Antarctic Climate Forum
